1. Heart Chambers:

   - Atria: The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body, and the left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.

   - Ventricles: The right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs, while the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the body.


2. Heart Valves: The valves that control blood flow within the heart can be evaluated for their structure and function:

   - Atrioventricular (AV) Valves: These include the mitral valve (between the left atrium and ventricle) and the tricuspid valve (between the right atrium and ventricle).

   - Semilunar Valves: These include the aortic valve (between the left ventricle and aorta) and the pulmonary valve (between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery).


3. Heart Walls and Muscle Thickness: The thickness of the heart walls (myocardium) can be measured, helping to assess for conditions like hypertrophy (thickening) or thinning due to damage.


4. Pericardium: The sac surrounding the heart, called the pericardium, can be examined for signs of inflammation or fluid accumulation (pericardial effusion).


5. Blood Flow: The direction and velocity of blood flow within the heart chambers and major blood vessels can be assessed using Doppler ultrasound, which is often combined with 2D echocardiography.


6. Congenital Anomalies: 2D echo can detect congenital heart defects such as atrial septal defects (ASDs), ventricular septal defects (VSDs), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and others.


By evaluating these components, a 2D echocardiogram provides valuable information about the structure, function, and overall health of the heart, helping cardiologists diagnose and manage various cardiac conditions.
